Strength Test for the Star Rating System
Earning a strength star in the United Boerboel Club’s Star Rating System is a testament to your Boerboel’s power and physical capabilities. To conduct this test, we use a specific weight-pull sled designed to challenge your dog’s strength adequately.
Equipment Required
The test requires a VEVOR Red Sled, which can be purchased on Amazon. This sled is chosen for its durability and suitability for weight-pulling exercises.
Setting Up the Test
- Load the Sled: The sled must be loaded with a minimum weight of 100 lbs. The weight can be increased based on your dog’s ability and experience, but 100 lbs is the minimum requirement for the test.
- Test Location: The ideal location for this test is a local football field. Use the 50-yard line as your starting point.
- Course: The dog must pull the sled to the end zone and back to the starting point at the 50-yard line, covering 100 yards.
Conducting the Test
- Video Recording: The entire test must be recorded on video as proof of completion and for evaluation purposes.
- Time Limit: Your dog has ten minutes to complete the task. This time limit is set to ensure that the test measures strength and the dog’s ability to sustain effort over a reasonable duration.
Earning the Strength Star
Your Boerboel will be awarded a strength star upon completing the test within the allotted time. This star recognizes your dog’s physical strength and ability to perform demanding tasks, a significant aspect of the Boerboel’s working heritage.
